You can test voltage, capacity, and internal resistance. Internal resistance is usually tied to the current charge level, however generally increases with a battery’s age, it provides a good indication of battery health, most notably in Lithium-based rechargeable batteries. It also works with alkaline and various other non-rechargeable batteries.
